A MESSAGE FOR ALL INDIANS

Truly the Indian Establishment is a rotting cadaver . Today, the India brand stands for a disagreeable cocktail of greed , fraud , corruption, filth, inefficiency, selfishness & lack of national pride.  And who is to be blamed for it ?  Just the  politicians , the corporates ( not all) and the irresponsible media ? Not at all.  ‘Yadha praja , tadha raja’ is also an old saying which means “ as the citizens ,so the king “. The politicians today in India are a  true representation of the Indian people .  They don’t care for the country because we the people  don’t care . They are selfish and have only self-interest because a vast majority of Indians have only self-interest at heart and can think only in terms of  “me , my family& my home “. The politicians don’t believe in collective good , because we the citizens don’t believe in collective good -take the basic example of a public toilet in India –if any Indian uses it , he will expect the next user to clean it and he himself  wont ! Then how can you expect this  country to be clean & good  in any aspect ?

We Indians can crib to eternity- nothing will change in India – instead it seems the fabric of Indian society will go from bad to worse in the years ahead , unless there is serious efforts through voices in the Indian society to make a drastic change in the thinking of the “ aam aaadmi” and make him to realise  that contributing to the Indian society is as importanat as contributing to his own family . A society deteriorates , not by the criminal acts of a few , but by the inaction  or silence of the majority – famous saying by Swami Vivekananda and also by Martin Luther King  . We are becoming a nation bereft of human values , although Buddha , Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda were all products of this very Great Country -India . Dharma and karma –concepts founded in India have no place in Indian lifestyles today .  Yes greed has become a symbol of modern times world over , but in no other country is “nationalism” also so dead as in India . Now moral degeneration is also evident in the entire social fabric and  values are at a shocking discount . Still why are there no voices of the intellectuals and intellegentia calling out to the Indian society through a responsible media ?  How many of the Indian  newspapers and TV channels devote space or time to  topics such as “ responsibility and nationalism” ; “character development and nation building “  ? What is the use of just talking about GDP and GNP growth and trying to show case India to the world , when the Indian society is sick and getting sicker everyday – both physically and mentally ; and  the Indian establishment is a rotting cadaver  ? Yes Indians have brains , but we have no heart – we have lost our conscience. And what is the use of brains , without a heart ?  The Indian media too cares nothing for India and the Indian society . The Indian media has more that bent backwards already to tap this “get-rich quick” opportunity and lately journalists  named in the   Radiaa scam is only the tip of the ice-berg . Again its thanks to the public apathy that media too has become irresponsible .

INDIANS - the root cause of all these ills in the Indian society today is the lack of direct participation in any initiatives by the Indian Masses . ONLY ARM CHAIR CRITICISM will not work  .'Change' is not a spectator sport . For real change to take place,  the work of reforming society cannot be the responsibility of public officials alone. Media has a big role and must keep sight of their responsibility to society . Society must have atleast voices to talk about the ills .The citizens themselves have to get involved.  And we must atleast force ourselves  to live by some of the standards we seek to impose on our public officials. Reforming our own behaviour is the  starting point to reforming society and public officials .

And finally Indians must drop the Hobbesian attitude  (‘Homo homini lupus’ as described by Thomas Hobbes in 17
th century- is a man who is a wolf to his fellow man)and  believe in the ‘law of mutuality’- which states “ Every transaction must benefit every person who is in any way connected with the transaction and any attempt to profit  by the weakness, ignorance or naiveness of another will inevitably operate to his disadvantage ".  Indians should take a pledge "I shall seek no advantage for myself to the detriment or the harm of my neighbour “.  Indians, in our quest to be opportunists in todays world , must  understand & believe about ‘ collective-good’ ; that society has a definite role in ones advancement and finally that unless each Indian gives back to society there is no hope for anyone to enjoy the fruits of living in a healthy society & clean environment . Our focus must shift from just  "making money" to "right living". Our cities and towns turning into living hell-holes are glaring examples where collective-good and society has failed . Indians -just cribbing is of no use –the scripts are all available already – we need actors –atleast a 500Million of them  .Else the trenches we are digging to call it home , will become unlivable for all of us .
